Woman’s ‘Cheap’ Weavon Leads To Bloody Bacterial Infection On Her Scalp

Have you ever been in a financial bind and
decided to get your weave installed for cheap by
someone who was non-licensed? A Texas college
student did, and now her hair is irreparably
damaged.
When 22-year-old Brittney Dever was offered the
chance to get human hair placed on her head for
only $60, she jumped at the opportunity.
“I went to someone’s house. She installed a
weave-in cap in my hair,” Dever told ABC7.
Dever wore the long, curly weave for two weeks
until she woke up one day and noticed there was
blood on her pillow. She began taking the hair
out, but the fake hair began pulling out her real
hair.
“It smelled horrible,” said Dever. “I was nauseous
when I was taking my hair out.” After the weave
was out, Devers had a large bald patch in the
middle of her head. The hairless area was covered
in pus and scabs.
Dever went to a professional hair salon and
showed a stylist what had happened to her scalp.
The stylist suspected that dirty hair utensils and
the hair being pulled too tight may have been the
root of the issue.
“I was just in shock when I saw her picture,” said
Natural Resources Salon owner Tamika Fletcher.
“It seemed like the weave was pulled too tight and
opening her scalp and exposing her scalp. I think
there could have been a possibility of the utensils
being unclean or unsanitary.”
Dermatologist Dr. Tracy Katz said that a serious
infection had grown on Dever’s scalp. “Those
kinds of infections on the scalp can cause hair
loss,” Dr. Katz told ABC7. “[They can] become
deeper, debilitating, and disfiguring.”
The middle of Dever’s head is still bald today.
Dever, who was shown on ABC7 wearing her
natural hair, said that her experience with the
inexpensive weave has complicated her styling
choices.
“I can’t wear my hair out,” Dever said. “I have to
wear it up all the time now.”
She urges women to make better choices when it
comes to grooming their mane. “Go to a salon
that’s sanitary, that’s clean,” urged Dever. “It’s
worth spending the extra money because you get
what you pay for. Going to someone’s home to
get the extra service may not be the best idea.
You can end up losing instead of gaining.”

UK Ebola patient gets experimental drug

William Pooley, the first Briton to contract Ebola, has been given the experimental drug ZMapp.

According to BBC Reprots The volunteer nurse from Eyke, Suffolk, was exposed to Ebola while working with patients in Sierra Leone.
He returned to the UK on Sunday and is being kept in a special isolation unit at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London.

Dr Michael Jacobs, consultant and clinical lead in infectious diseases at the Royal Free Hospital, said: "We have had the opportunity to give him the ZMapp treatment.
He said "It is an experimental medicine, we made that absolutely clear in our discussions with him."

Staff said he was given the first dose of ZMapp on Monday and further doses are expected to be given to him "in due course".
Dr Mike Jacobs added: "We are giving him the very best care possible. However, the next few days will be crucial."

The experimental drug Mr Pooley is receiving was previously given to two American aid workers who have now recovered from the virus.

But a Spanish priest and Liberian doctor who were also reported to have taken the medication died recently.

Dr. Rima Laibow Insists Nano Silver Can Cure Ebola

According to the latest interview by the Managing Director of US-based company Natural Solutions Foundation, Dr. Rima Laibow, Nano Silver has been deployed by her team of scientists during treatment of Ebola patients in Africa before the current
epidemic outbreak.

“It is said that there is no cure or treatment against Ebola, and that is not true. In fact there is a well known, well characterised nutrient against the disease and that is Nano silver,” she said.

Dr. Laibow listed some of its benefits: the drug is non-toxic, does not require refrigeration. It is cost effective, self-sterilising and would suit for everyone, including aged patients, pregnant mothers and even new-born babies.

Ebola crisis: Confusion as patients vanish in Liberia

There are conflicting reports over the fate of 17 suspected Ebola patients who vanished after a quarantine centre in the Liberian capital was looted.

An angry mob attacked the centre in Monrovia's densely populated West Point township on Saturday evening.

A senior health official said all of the patients had been moved to another medical facility.

But a reporter told the BBC that 17 had escaped while 10 others were taken away by their families.

More than 400 people are known to have died from the virus in Liberia, out of a total of 1,145 deaths recorded in West Africa by the World Health Organization this year.
"This is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in my life," he said. "All between the houses you could see people fleeing with items looted from the patients."

The looting spree, he added, could spread the virus to the whole of the West Point area.

Described as a slum, there are an estimated 50,000 people in the West Point neighbourhood.

The Ebola epidemic began in Guinea in February and has since spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

One Nigerian doctor has survived the disease and was sent home on Saturday night, said Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu in a statement.

Mr Chukwu said five other people infected with Ebola had almost fully recovered.

On Friday, the death toll rose to 1,145 after the WHO said 76 new deaths had been reported in the two days to 13 August. There have been 2,127 cases reported in total.

Mysterious End:Family Of Five Found Dead In Ogun

There were varying reports as to how a couple and 3 of their children died in Abeokuta
Residents of the Temidire Community in Sabo, Abeokuta, were left in shock when 5 members of the same family were found dead in their home.
The victims, a man, one of his wives and their 3 children, were found lifeless in a 6 room bungalow in the Ogun state capital.
Some residents suggested that foul play was involved as the deceased man, Aliu Adeoye died with his second wife, identified as Iya Aliya, but the first wife survived.
Reports have it that the first wife was suspected and even escaped lynching as it was claimed that she was always at loggerheads with the deceased.

The unidentified first wife slept ina room in the same home with her children but they survived.
Neighbours report that a strong chemical odour was coming from the building and suspect that the family might have succumbed to generator fumes.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said that a conclusive autopsy would be carried out on the bodies to reveal the true cause of death.

Ebola Test Drug ‘Nanosilver’ Arrives Nigeria!

Nigeria has received an experimental drug from an  unnamed Nigerian scientist to treat Ebola virus, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, said in Abuja on Thursday.

Chukwu, who gave the cheering news at a news conference, gave the name of the drug as “Nanosilver.”

“The only experimental drug we have now is Nanosilver, provided by a Nigerian scientist; details of the drug will be disclosed later to the media.

“However, we have 11 confirmed cases of Ebola in Nigeria, out of these, three are dead, Patrick Sawyer, a Nigeria nurse and ECOWAS protocol officer.Apart from Lagos, there is no Ebola case in any states of the federation……

Autopsy: Popular Actor Robin Williams hung Himself With His ...

After the unexpected death of world famous
actor, Robin Williams at his home, Marin
County Coroner has revealed his autopsy
result.

According to the coroner, Robin had attempted

allegedly bit off her rival’s ear in Badore area

of Lagos State, because of a man.

The incident happened yesterday, August 10
when Iyabo saw her rival, Kemi with her lover,
Adeyomi and confronted them.
An eyewitness, Tajudeen who spoke to
Leadership disclosed that Kemi mocked Iyabo,
asking her to go to hell as she did not own the
man.

again as they were not even married.

Singer Maheeda (real name Caroline Sam) was asked a bunch of rather extravagant questions about her attitude to sex and nudity.

Maheeda said there is a part of Maheeda in everyone. “I was with a lady yesterday at Cool FM and immediately she sighted me, she changed into her bum shorts and high heels and started posing. To me, the Maheeda in her was coming out because seeing me already, I have influenced her dress sense. The urge to look sexy was irresistible in her. That’s the Maheeda in her and there should be a Maheeda in you too,” the singer said.

Answering question about sex addiction, Maheeda said: “I love sex, everybody is addicted to sex. Why does everybody just think I’m the only one who loves sex? If there’s no sex, I won’t be normal. Everything will just be sexy to me.”

The singer believes that even in her old age she would like to have sex.

2 University Of Calabar Students Shot

Three Students of the University of Calabar were on shot by stray bullets from the riffle of a security officer of the university on Wednesday evening.

According to reports the shooting happened following an inconclusive Student Union Government election contested by four candidates: Emmanuel Akobi, Ajang Emmanuel, Ilefa Austin and Afo Nelson. A 300 level political Science Student, who was an observer in the election, Ekere Sylvanus, said trouble started when some of the students who registered to vote could not find their names in the electoral register were not allowed to vote.

“Some students who registered during the registration exercise could not find their names on the Voters Register and the Electoral Officer who was assigned to conduct the election by the Vice Chancellor asked them to wait in a queue and the number rose to about three hundred and when it was 3pm when the election was scheduled to end”

He went further to say that the Electoral Officer said the election had ended, prompting those students should not be allowed to vote.

SMH: Patrick Sawyer, Liberian With Ebola URINATED With Rage On Health Workers

This is disturbing, it has been revealed that the
Liberian, Patrick Sawyer URINATED on Health
Workers with rage Who Told Him he Had
Ebola!
According to FrontPage Africa, the last acts of
Patrick Sawyer, the Ebola infected Liberian who
died in Lagos, might have resulted in the
transfer of the virus to innocent health
workers.

Mr. Sawyer is said to have had an
"indiscipline" encounter with nurses and health
workers at the First Consultants Hospital
inObalende where he was being treated.
According to the report, Mr. Sawyer was asked
if he had come into contact with anyone who
had the virus but he answered in the negative.

Doctors at the hospital decided to test him
anyway and when they told him he had Ebola,
he allegedly went into a rage and urinated on
the health workers attending to him.

objecting to the opinion of the medical
experts. “He was so adamant and difficult
that he took the tubes from his body and
took off his pants and urinated on the
health workers, forcing them to flee."
The hospital would later report that it
resisted immense pressure to let out Sawyer
from its hospital against the insistence
from some higher-ups and conference
organizers that he had a key role to play at
the ECOWAS convention in Calabar, the
Cross River State capital.
In fact, FrontPageAfrica has been informed
that officials in Monrovia were in
negotiations with ECOWAS to have Sawyer
flown back to Liberia.
A text message in possession of

Ambassador in Liberia, responding to a
senior GoL official reads: Your Excellency,
the disease control department of the
Federal Ministry of Health just contacted
me through the hospital now, insisting that
Mr. Sawyer be evacuated for now. Pls
advise urgently.”

FrontPageAfrica has now learnt that Sawyer
exhibited similar indiscipline behavior during
his sister’s stay at the Catholic Hospital in
Monrovia where she was taken because he
noticed she was bleeding profusely and was
later found to be a victim of Ebola.
Sawyer was seen with blood on his clothing
after his sister’s death and had earlier
demanded that she be placed in a private
room.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf cited
indiscipline and disrespect as a key reason why
Sawyer contracted the Ebola virus. She said
his failure to heed medical advice put the lives
of other residents across the nation’s border at
risk.

As one of the nurses who treated Sawyer died
today, fears are currently being fanned in the
country with some people suggesting that he
might have knowingly spread the disease.

The Nigerian Minister of Health, Onyebuchi
Chukwu has confirmed 7 cases of the disease
and has assured that urgent measures are
being put in place to ensure that the virus does
not spread further.

LASU Students To Pay 25,000Naira As School Fees

After a very long contemplation on the hiked
school fees of the Lagos State University (LASU),
the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji
Fashola has come to a concluded on new fees.
The governor has ordered for the fees of the
university to its former price of 25,000 Naira. He
gave the directives today, 7th August, 2014 at the
convocation program of LASU which held earlier
today at the LASU Ojo campus ground.
Recall that in 2011, the state increased the
school fees of the university from 25,000 to
198,000 for humanities and education, which
medical students were to pay 350,000 Naira.
The students are very pleased about the new fees
and have praised the governor for his decision.

Nigerian doctor who treated Ebola patient infected with virus

ABUJA – The doctor in Lagos who treated a
Liberian victim of Ebola has contracted the virus,
the second confirmed case in sub-Saharan
Africa’s largest city.
“This new case is one of the doctors who
attended to the Liberian Ebola patient who died,”
said Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu.
Liberian finance ministry employee Patrick Sawyer
was found to be infected with the virus when he
arrived in Lagos on July 20. He died in quarantine
on July 25.

Ebola Scare Grips TB Joshua, Suspends Healing Programmes

Following the recent outbreak of the Ebola virus in
West Africa, and the first recorded death in
Nigeria, a courtesy visit has been paid to the
General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All
Nation, Prophet T.B Joshua, by the Lagos State
Government, which was led by the State
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, at its
Ikotun Egbe headquarters.

Dr. Jide Idris and his delegations were at the
office of the Man of God to discuss with him on
the best ways of controlling his crusades in order
not to allow victims of the Ebola virus into his
church and the country.

According to him, “We have our strategies that we
intend to share with you. Again, we need to know
the resources you have here because whether it is
one or two cases, if they are allowed to get out, it
is a major problem. We are here to work together
on how to contain this disease.”
Acknowledging their visit, Prophet T.B Joshua,
promised to work with the government to avert
the spread of the virus and stated that instead of
allowing people from other countries to come into
Nigeria, he will take his crusade to their countries,
adding that he will now suspend some of his
church healing programmes.

“I am ready to work with you. I love my country
and I will be ready to work with you. Even if it is
a rumour, there is need to secure our environment
to ensure that it is safe,” he noted.
