(1) I was tucking my son into bed when he asked me, once again, to check under the bed for monsters. I reluctantly agreed. I stood back up after checking and said, "I checked; I don't see any monster under here!" My son replied with, "Of course he's not under there, he's right behind you."

Two years ago, I was looking through my elementary school yearbook with my 5 year old cousin, when we were at a page with a 2nd grade class, she pointed to a boy's photo and said " that looks just like Nicolas!". 'Vampire' skeleton with stake driven through heart discovered in ruins of ancient city

A 'vampire grave' containing a skeleton with a stake driven through its chest has been discovered by a man known as 'Bulgaria's Indiana Jones'.

The grisly find - believed to be a man who died in the 13th Century - is said to be the result of an 'anti-vampire ritual'.

In Medieval times metal would be driven through the corpse to stop a bad person rising from the dead and terrorising the living, according to the archaeologist who unearthed the skeleton.

Former Kano State Governor's Daughter Killed By Robbers

The Family  of Former militery administrator of Kano State General Dominic Oneya has been thrown into grief after his daughter was reportedly killed in Delta State.

According to reports, Frances Oneya was killed at about 11am yesterday, October 10 after robbers trailed her from a bank on PTI Road to Ovie Palace Road in the Effurun area of the state.

The victim, said to be a mother of four, tried to escape but was reportedly shot twice in the neck and died instantly.

The robbers were said to have made away with her handbag and reportedly escaped the scene before the police could apprehend them.

A 58-Foot-Long Fin Whale With Huge Bite Marks Has Washed Up On Long Island

A dead 58-foot finback whale was discovered ashore Thursday morning near the campgrounds area at Smith Point County Park in Shirley.

Kim Durham, rescue program director of the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, said her agency received a call shortly before 8 a.m. from someone who spotted the carcass.

Durham and a team of researchers conducted a thorough external examination of the whale, which they determined to be a mature male. She estimated it weighed between 30 and 40 tons.

Durham said the whale showed signs of "advanced decomposition" and also bite marks, indicating that large sea animals, possibly a shark, had fed on the carcass post-mortem.

Boy, 3, mauled by jaguars after falling into zoo enclosure

The three-year-old boy fell around 15ft into the pen while visiting Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas yesterday, and was then attacked by the two big cats.

One animal is said to have grabbed the youngster by the neck, while the second bit his foot.

The boy's father and grandfather threw a water hose at the jaguars in an effort to distract them, but they only let go of the toddler when zookeepers used a fire extinguisher to push them away.

The boy is being treated for a fractured skull, extensive scalp lacerations and puncture wounds, according to ArkansasMatters.com.

Court Martial: EU rejects death sentences

The European Union (EU) has rejected the death sentence handed to 12 Nigerian soldiers by the General Court Martial in Nigeria for alleged mutiny.

The EU in a statement issued yesterday on the occasion of the World Day against Death Penalty condemned all death sentences especially after mass trials as was the case with the Nigerian soldiers.

The UK is to introduce "enhanced screening" for Ebola for arrivals from affected countries.

Earlier this week a Spanish nurse became the first person to contract the deadly virus outside of West Africa.
People leaving areas affected by the outbreak have been subject to checks for some weeks, although people do not become infectious until they display symptoms.

Asari-Dokubo took part in $9.3m arms scandal –APC

APC says ex-militant, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, was involved in the $9.3m arms deal which led to the arrest of two Nigerians and an Israeli in South Africa.

The party, therefore, asked President Goodluck Jonathan to explain to Nigerians what Dokubo-Asari was doing on the plane where the money was found and confiscated by the South African authorities.

In 2012, a lower court convicted Maarohanye of murder and attempted murder after he killed four pupils and wounded two others while drag-racing.
Maarohanye's lawyer Willie Vermeulen argued during the appeal that the musician had been on drugs on the day of the race, and did not have any intention to kill the children.
The high court seemed to accept the argument, saying the murder charges could not stand, South Africa's privately owned IOL news site reports.

The murder and attempted murder convictions of Maarohanye's co-accused, Themba Tshabalala, were also overturned.
Maarohanye was one of South Africa's best-known rappers, but fell from grace after smashing his car into the pupils in Johannesburg's Soweto township in 2010.

Anger as Ebola nurse's dog put down

Health authorities in Spain have put to death the dog of a nurse infected with the Ebola virus in Madrid, sparking protests from animal rights groups.

The nurse, Teresa Romero, is the first person known to have contracted the deadly virus outside West Africa.
She had treated two missionaries who later died from Ebola. The virus has killed 3,879 people, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
A court order to euthanise Ms Romero's dog was issued on Tuesday despite uncertainty over whether the animal was also infected or risked spreading the disease.

UK sending 750 troops to tackle Ebola

The UK is sending 750 military personnel to Sierra Leone to help deal with the deadly Ebola outbreak, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has confirmed.
More than 3,000 people have died in the outbreak, mostly in West Africa.
In Sierra Leone the death toll is at least 678. Save the Children has said the rate of infection is rapidly increasing, with five new cases every hour.
There is no cure or vaccine for Ebola, which has so far infected more than 7,500 people in the worst outbreak yet.
British troops will help to establish treatment centres and a training academy, with the ship and helicopters providing support.

Chinese Embassy in Nigeria denies students visa on grounds of Ebola

The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has denied visas to some students of Ekiti State University on the grounds of Ebola despite the World Health Organization declaring Nigeria an Ebola free country.

The students were invited to participate in ENACTUS 2014 (Entrepreneurial Action Us), an international competition of young entrepreneurs involving 36 countries slated for 22 – 24th of October 2014 in China in which Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Egypt are to represent Africa. But the Chinese Embassy here refused to grant the student visas to go to China.

The Ekiti State University students, who were picked to represent Nigeria having won the ENACTUS Promoted Innovation Competition earlier in the year, have written an open letter about the situation. Find it after the cut...

South African organization demand $1million refund from Nicki Minaj

A South Africa organization, The ANC Youth League - wants rapper Nicki Minaj to pay back the R10million (about $1million) they paid her as part payment for a show that was canceled.

According to South African media, Nicki was paid the money a few weeks back for a music festival - TribeOne Dinokeng, which she was supposed to headline in the city of Tshwane this October but the festival was canceled recently. Now they want their money back. ANCYL said they have written to the rapper's management to return the money. Unfortunately, it's a non-refundable performance fee. Meaning if you pay and you cancel your show, it's on you. You ain't getting your money back. But ANCYL is now saying if Nicki Minaj doesn't want to return the money, she should give it to charity.
