In a piece titled "Meet The Man Who Tamed Nigeria's Most Lawless City", UK Telegraph chronicles how Governor Fashola came into office and transformed Lagos and also how he effectively managed the Ebola epidermic in the state. Read below...
He famously claims to be "just doing his job". But in a land where politicians are known for doing anything but, that alone has been enough to make Babatunde Fashola, boss of the vast Nigerian city of Lagos, a very popular man.
Confounding the image of Nigerian leaders as corrupt and incompetent, the 51-year-old governor has won near-celebrity status for transforming west Africa's biggest city, cleaing up its crime-ridden slums and declaring war on corrupt police and civil servants.
Next month, he will come to London to meet business leaders and Mayor Boris Johnson's officials, wooing investors with talk of how he has spent the last seven years building new transport hubs and gleaming business parks.
Yet arguably his biggest achievement in office took place just last week, and was done without a bulldozer in sight. That was when his country was officially declared free of Ebola, which first spread to Nigeria three months ago when Patrick Sawyer, an infected Liberian diplomat, flew into Lagos airport.

Jumia commences Sunday deliveries

For those who believe in things like this... Nigerian Tribuneis reporting that a baby was born recently in Oyo state clutching a pocket-size Qur’an (pictured above).

The baby, who has since been named Ismail, was born in a church at the Oniyanrin area of Ibadan in September, the reports states. A renowned Islamic preacher who the newspaper spoke with said the woman who delivered the baby threw away the object she found in the baby's hand thinking it was something devilish, only for them to later find out it was a pocket-size Qur’an which contained all the 114 chapters in the holy book. It was wrapped in a thread. The preacher said although the Qur’an was small, the lettering inside was readable.

First case of Ebola recorded in New York

A US doctor based in New York who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea has become the first person in the city to test positive for Ebola. 33 year old Dr. Craig Allen Spencer (pictured above) had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea, and returned to NYC on October 17th. He tested positive to the virus the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan New York yesterday October 23rd.

Young Money war! Drake handles Tyga after he calls him fake

In a new interview with Vibe magazine, rapper Tyga slammed his label Young Money and his other label mate, Drake. He doesn't like Drake and he made his feelings known. Tyga said;
"I’m tryna’ go independent. I don’t really get along with Drake. I don’t really get along with Nicki. I don't like Drake as a person. He’s just fake to me. I like his music; you know what I’m saying? I think his music is good, but we’re all different people. We were forced together and it was kinda like we were forcing relationships together. It is what it is."

Dame Patience Jonathan has resigned her appointment as 'Super' Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa state Civil service, a position conferred on her in July 2012 by the Governor of the state, Dickson Seriake. Seriake said he gave the appointment to Mama Peace based on her good service to the state and nation.

Relief came for a blind teacher, Mary Ihekanacho on Wednesday October 22, 2014 as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, presented her with a draft of N550, 000 which the anti- graft agency recovered from a gang of fraudsters that swindled her of N 830,000 in a job scam.
The syndicate conned the woman by promising to facilitate her son’s employment with one of the oil majors.

Mr. David Iloyanomo who made the presentation on behalf of the Executive Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, said that “the EFCC stands for justice for all and called on the general public to ensure that they assist the Commission in carrying out its duties by coming forward to give evidence in court when it is required”. He also praised the passion with which officers of the Commission handled the matter which made it possible to get justice for Mrs. Ihekanacho.

The soldier who was shot dead yesterday October 22nd at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Canada has been identified as 24 year old Nathan Cirillo (pictured above).

People from this little girl's school just reached out to Lib. They say the girl's father's lover has been allegedly battering her. Her name is Blessing Osayande and she's a Pry 2 pupil of South Royal School in Benin. The girl's school authority said they have called the father and talked to him several times after seeing injuries on her body but apparently the abuse has not stopped.

5 people lost their lives this morning October 23rd in an accident on Kaduna road. The people who lost their lives were traveling in a bus marked NNPC Retired Staff Association. A Nigerian man based in Maryland, Dominic Adesanya, (pictured above) has been arrested after jumping the White House Fence. According to police reports, around 7.15pm yesterday Wednesday October 22nd, Adesanya, 23, climbed the fence on the North Lawn of the building and got about 20 yards past the fence before he was taken down by Secret Service and dogs.

He's currently in police custody but is being treated in a hospital for injuries he sustained during the encounter. He was attacked by K.9 dogs. Continue to see photos from the incident...

About 60 women were abducted by members of Boko Haram during fresh attacks at Waga Mangoro and Garta villages, both in Adamawa State this past Saturday October 18th.

Residents of the villages who confirmed the abductions to reporters said the sect men came in motorcycles in the early hours of Saturday morning, killed many, burnt down their homes and abducted 40 women from Waga Mangoro village and 20 women from Garta village.

This horrific scene happened around 5.30pm today at the railway crossing area in Bodija Ojurin in Ibadan. A man was found dead cut in two on the railway tracks. No one saw what happened, but they suspect he was crushed by a train. The pics are really graphic...will share one...but be warned, it's really graphic. See it after the cut if you have the heart...

A Nigerian man named Raphael Agha and his wife welcomed Octuplets (8 children at once) in a hospital in Pretoria, South Africa recently. Above is the pic of 6 of the Agha children inside their incubators. The other two babies were not responding well so they moved them to a better equipped facility in Johannesburg.

New governor of Ekiti state Ayo Fayose has accused former governor Kayode Fayemi of spending a whooping N50million on beds in his and his wife's bedroom at the Ekiti State Govt House which they recently vacated. Legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta dies at 82

Legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has died. He was 82. According to a statement released by his family, he died at home yesterday evening in his home in Kent, Connecticut surrounded by family. The statement didn't specify his cause of death but he'd been battling cancer for a while.
"While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he's still very much with us. Oscar's hard work, his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company. We will make Oscar very proud of us by continuing in an even stronger way the work that Oscar loved so much" the statement read.

Actress Mercy Johnson has revealed the name herself and husband chose for their new bundle of joy. His name is Henry, which means ruler.

The following was what she(the judge) considered before imposing her sentence
1. Culpable homicide - 5 years in prison
2. For possession of fire-arms, he was sentence to 3 years, suspended for 5 years
The two sentences will run concurrently

Lagos State Govt donates N50million to First Consultant Hospital

As measures to cushion the economic effect the Ebola crisis had on the First Consultant Hospital and those who suffered from the deadly Ebola virus disease, the Lagos state government announced yesterday October 20th that it will be giving out N50million to the hospital as a business support gesture and also extend support to all those, dead or alive who suffered from the deadly disease.
