Church of England formally approves plans for women bishops

The Church of England has formally adopted legislation which means its first female bishops could be ordained next year.
The amendment was passed with a show of hands at the general synod.
The first women priests were ordained in 1994, but to date they have not been able to take on the Church's most senior roles.
Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said the move meant the start of "a new way of being the church".
But divisions remain between Anglicans who feel it is consistent with their faith and traditionalists who disagree.
The general synod voted to back plans for female bishops in July.
A prior move to allow women to stand as bishops was defeated in 2012 by six votes cast by lay members of the general synod, the law-making body of the Church of England.

Warren Clarke, star of Dalziel and Pascoe, dies aged 67

British actor Warren Clarke, best known for TV role in Dalziel And Pascoe, has died aged 67 after a short illness, his agent has confirmed.
Clarke, who was born in Oldham, starred in the controversial 1971 film A Clockwork Orange, by Stanley Kubrick.
He recently appeared in the BBC One dramas Call the Midwife and Down to Earth, about a family moving to rural Devon.
The actor is due to appear in a remake of Poldark.
The series, which is due to be released next year, was his last role before his death.
Clarke, with his heavy set build and hangdog facial features, was a perfect fit for grumpy police detective Dalziel, who was translated to the screen from the books by Reginald Hill.

Clarke (far left) was also known for his role in Clockwork Orange
The popular series ran on BBC One from 1996 to 2007 and clocked up 46 episodes, some of which he directed.

"He's this bloke from the North who's farting, scratching and behaving badly with women."
Clarke started his acting career on the stage of the Liverpool Playhouse and in Huddersfield Repertory.
In the 1960s, he played a number of smaller roles, including two characters in Coronation Street, before establishing his name in Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange.

Boko Haram Bombs Bank in Azare, Kills 14, Scores Injured

The terrorist sect, Boko Haram, on Friday carried out more attacks in the North-east targetting Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, bombing a first generation bank in the town. About 14 people were feared killed while scores were injured.

The bomb blast in Azare came on the same day the sect entered Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State and overran Gashala Village, killing four people in the process.

The tragic incident in Azare occurred in the early hours of Friday. Sources said customers believed to be mainly civil servants were on the queue at the bank’s ATM machine when a bomb was detonated by the suspected terrorists.

The source said 14 people died instantly while scores were critically injured.

An eyewitness added: “The hoodlums initially disguised as normal bank customers who had come to join the queue to withdraw money, but before we knew what was happening, the suspects detonated a bomb.”

The source added that the bombers came in a Hilux vehicle.

"As I am talking to you right now, I have counted about 14 corpses. 27 others are on the ground injured. There is no rescue team around,” a source told journalists by telephone few minutes after the attack.

The bomb blast caused pandemonium in the town, with several people running in different directions for safety.
Traders and shop owners hurriedly shut their shops while economic activities were grounded. Commercial vehicles also withdrew from the streets.

A source at the Federal Medical Centre confirmed that about 14 corpses were brought to the hospital while about 27 critically injured ones are currently under medication.

According to another source, some of the victims were civil servants from neigbouring states like Yobe and Jigawa who withdraw their salaries in Azare.

Azare town is about the busiest commercial area in Bauchi State aside Bauchi metropolis.

However, with the emergence of Boko Haram, the town had suffered untold hardship with series of attacks thereby reducing the number of banks in the town.

As at press time, the Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Mohammed Haruna, was not available for comments on the attack. The state’s government had equally not issued any official statement on the bomb attack.

Bloody tales of Okija shrine re-echoe

Echoes of the controversial and dreaded Okija shrines resonated, Weekend, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State following fight for supremacy between the Chief Priests of the shrines and youths in the area. The elderly priests alleged that the youths have hijacked their shrines and are duping and killing unsuspecting patronizers of the notorious Ogwugwu—Akpu and Ogwugwu—Isi—Ula shrines by parading themselves as priests.
TAFA BALOGUN CONNECTION
A similar crisis erupted amongst the worshippers of the shrines few years ago leading to startling discovery of human parts at various stages of decomposition inside the shrines. The discoveries which shook the nation and beyond took place in August, 2004, following a petition to the police, by a former chief priest of the shrine. It attracted the visit of the then Inspector- General of Police, Tafa Balogun, who swiftly carried out the arrest of some worshippers. There were also recovery of some human skulls and bodies, which stunned the world.

REVELATIONS
This time around, a prominent elder from Ubahu Ezike, Umuhu village, Okija and President of Herbs and Leaves Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Dr. Omeifejideofor Azugbo, came out with more revelations about the deadly shrines warning that calamity may befall the entire Okija community and Anambra State in general if nothing was done to bring down the escalating crisis in the shrines and stop the wanton destruction of human lives inside the shrines.
Azugbo who claims to be the chief priest of Ogwugwu-Ubahu-Idengwo deity, specifically asked various security agencies to send their respective investigators into the town to monitor the nefarious activities of those he identified as ‘jobless youths’ who forcefully took over the priesthood of the shrines as an opportunity to swindle unsuspecting members of the public. He also warned politicians and prominent businessmen who are still going to the shrine for power acquisition or for acquisition of prosperity, to be mindful of the fact that the alleged swindlers have taken over the shrine, adding that although the shrines are still retaining their original efficacy, the priests are now piloting its affairs in a negative direction.

How fire from oil spillage almost razed Foursquare campground

Tuesday, November 4, 2014 was a day that petrochemical fire would have razed the expansive camp of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria located in Ajebo, a community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Some villages in the vicinity of the camp such as Derupatan, Ajebo, Ashaidun, Oniworo and Fidiwo would have also been reduced to rubble by the raging fire, but for providence.

The incident occurred less than a week to the commencement of the annual national convention of the denomination slated to hold from Monday 10th to Sunday 16th November, this year, at the Foursquare Campground, Ajebo. The main gate of the camp is beside Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Alapako/Ogunmakin area.
